Underrated Must Buy Game!

Shadow Of The Colossus is one of the most underrated titles available on the Playstation 2. Perhaps due in part to it's almost too serene gameplay. After all, everything in this game is a visual feast for the eyes. Beautiful landscapes, fluidic character motion, and creatures so impressively massive and incredible that at times you almost hate to have to "destroy" them. The music is well composed and soft and is usually only present when the player approaches a creature, I believe.

Actually, I haven't played the game in quite awhile so I'm not really 100% sure that there is any music at all...lol. But I do remember that the battles were not overshadowed by raging music, so perhaps the music complimented the battles so nicely that I have forgotten. At any rate, there is lots of exploration, puzzle solving, and majestic battles to be had in this game.

Did I mention how vast this game is? The player can literally wander around on his horse and get lost simply looking at the beautifully rendered landscapes. In fact, my goddaughter did just that. She didn't like having to kill the "nice monsters" because they weren't bothering her while she rode her horse around. It made her sad whenever I killed one simply to complete an objective and advance the storyline. Yes, all she did was simply ride the horse around to different lands and look around. Sometimes for over an hour. lol.

Shadow of The Colossus is NOT a mindless violent "kill the bad creatures" game either because as I said earlier there are some creatures so beautiful and serene that you wonder why you are attacking them when all they seem to be are gentle giants (at least until you attack them). What the game actually is is a telling look into the blind violent nature we as humans accept without question. Once you see the ending and discover why you've been killing all of the Colossi (that's plural for Colossus, folks ) you'll understand the poignant message this game is actually conveying.

Get the game. Play it. Enjoyment is a given.

Colossus Conquered

This is a great game! I finally finished Sunday Feb 17, 2008(Yay me!!) The only thing that bothered me was the camera angles and getting the hang of how to use the sword to find the location of the Colossi. Make sure that your health and strenght meters are at max. each Colssus has a weak spot so be careful when finding it. Also with battling the monsters be sure and scope them out first before making your move. Learn their mannerisms. Find a way to get close without getting clobbered! Remember to squat when your health meter is low . This will get it to refill faster. When possible go to the half moon shrines to save your game when in the field. They are not always easy to find but if you are killed by a Colossi or take a deadly fall at least you won't have to start from scratch at the temple to venture out and find the Colossus again as some of them are hard to locate and the sword isn't always accurate. Good luck and remember they all have weaknesses so find them and use them to your advantage. There are 16 in all each with new challenges and weaknesses. Watch the game in its entirety even after defeating the final Colossus. Beautiful written and executed. Very serene but it is easy to get lost as you have free roam of the terrain and landscape.
