This is a classic shooter from the arcade that we have been looking to play on a handheld system for far too long! The game does lack some of the luster of newer games, more vibrant colors, music made to go with the sequence of the game. But, Make no mistake! This collection brings back the feeling of why we pumped quarters into machines in roller rinks around the U.S. The shear difficulty of missing every shot, hill and on coming enemy, while your lasers’ recharge for another ill missed shot, is more then enough to remind you that easy was not going to take a dollar in quarters to complete.
Kombi has done a wonderful job of bring them all together and have also added a Save/Load Function, for those who actually want to complete the game with out having to bring back all the options (?), laser and missile upgrades every time our ship does not move out of the way. But why, Kombi, is this not on the main select menu at the start of the games? The gallery brings the music to you 8bit ears a classic score you can button mash your way to Glory! But when you get down to it there is nothing really added to the games, no new functions. A Co-op mode would have been the greatest addition to the series, or an online score board for second place, but neither was added.
This game will have you back in skates, disco lighting, and bad 80’s music in no time. It will also show those youngsters why today’s games could never touch the difficulties of yester-games. Yes, you die with 1 shot on hard in current game, but back then you died on every level with 1 shot. Whether you are an old school master or a noob killer this is still a game for the masses.
