The best fighting game made by a person

Reviewed by The_Milkman on September 25, 2006  |  report this review

This is the best fighting game ever, whether you’re doing single player or multiplayer.

Right off the bat you’ve got about 60 hours of good playing time in single player. There are about 50 event matches you can play through; each offers its own unique challenge. There is also Classic Mode (fight character after character) and Adventure mode (run an obstacle course before each battle or fight in unique situations).

But by far the best is multiplayer. Infinite hours can be spent playing and customizing the multiplayer mode. Whether you do Giant or Tiny, Stamina or Coin, there’s something there for everyone. And if you’ve got a group of say 20 people that want to play, that’s great. Just set of the Tournament mode and let the smashing begin.

I’ve actually worn through the disc with my friends and I playing this game so much, so I had to go out and buy it again.

A great party game if there ever was one. The control ares simple and intuitive, while also allowing for deeper strategy as skill level increases. Once 4 people get a hang of this game, the real fun begins. Games are short and frenetic, simultaneously creating rivalries and bragging opportunities.
Single-player is not as captivating, but it is interesting enough not to make this a multi-player only game.

Super Smash Brothers is one of the only games that has easy to learn, hard to master down perfectly, right to the toenails. A genious gameplay layout, all your favorite Nintendo stars, great gameplay, awesome Cube graphics, trophy collecting, unlocking, and beating on a Pikachu are the game's finest points. But the real kicker for this game is the multiplayer. If you haven't played this game with three other humans, put that on the top of your 'list' right now. NOW. This is the granddaddy of multiplayer greatness, and in single player, it truly shines.

Fun, but doesn't live up to the hype.

This is a fun brawler, but didn't live up to the hype for me.

The gameplay is deep, which is what did it for me. I could play the game with 3 other friends, and would end up winning most of the time as they didn't know enough about all of the controls. Eventually they would give up and request a different game.

On the other hand, I would get whooped against the little kids who play this non-stop. There needs to be some even ground, and I hope that "Brawl" tackles these issues.

Awesome for party play

Reviewed by coolguy_21 on January 19, 2007  |  report this review

Super Smash Bros. Melee is definitely worth a pickup if you want an awesome party game that would last the entire party. It's fun to see who can kill the most people, or smash someone the coolest way. The single player is rather boring though. You'll probably spend most of your single player time doing adventures and stuff like that to unlock the characters. While it can be boring, and i say that it takes a long time, its good practice for you, unless you do it all on easy mode like i did :P. Graphics and sound are what you expect. They're not particularly great or awesome, but good enough to not hurt your ears. The gameplay is the best thing about the game. Pull of combos to kill your opponent, and even taunt them afterwards. Its limitless how you can kill someone. Although online play would have been prefered by anyone, just wait for Super Smash Bros. Brawl ad their online play. Overall, get this game, and have fun playing it with your friends, if you really have any haha....Dont pick it up if you dont have any friends as it will get boring pretty quickly. Just get it, and have a blast playing it like i did.

Graphics: 9.5/10
The graphics are incredible. Simply incredible. Where do I begin? Just have a look at the game intro. I'd have to say that the scene with Sheik looking into the night sky was of the finest graphics I've ever seen. How about during actual gameplay? Near-perfect animations and excellent framerate, with highly detailed characters and and stages. You can zoom in and see the denim overalls that Mario wears, or the way Marth's cape flows with the wind supposedly flowing through the stage. Or how about the flowing water in the Fountain of Dreams stage? Or that awesome big screen in the background of Pokemon Stadium? Link's sword? The lighting effects on Brinstar? The flame effects from Roy's sword? There is so much detail in this game that there is no possibly way to describe it all here. It's good stuff.

Gameplay: 10/10
I've been playing this game for over a year. That either signifies that I'm obsessed with this game, or that the gameplay is outstanding. I'm thinking a little of both. This game took a huge jump from its predecessor on the N64. New fighting modes, mini games, characters, button layout, everything here has been improved to provide a more enjoyable and complex playing experience. It's quite addictive, actually. The sheer number of trophies to collect and characters and stages to unlock draws you toward playing more. This is the game to have when friends come over. There is nothing better than doing a victory pose after annihilating your best friend in a hard-fought stock match. There are few games with a multiplayer that has the potential for so many variations. Stock, Coin, and Time matches are just the beginning. What makes this game so successful is that the same thing never happens twice. Each match is unique in its character variations and item drops that there is literally no match that is exactly alike. That being said, you can use the Item Switch screen, which controls what items appear, if any at all. If you get tired of a particular match, create a different kind of match and see how you like it. The gameplay is far more technical than its predecessor. You can hold down buttons to build up strength for your attacks, dodge attacks midair as well as on the ground, etc. The controls provide for amazing gameplay. If you don't like its excellent graphics, you will likely appreciate its outstanding gameplay instead.

Characters: 10/10
Have a look at the roster of playable characters. Every popular Nintendo character from their respective franchises appear in this game. It's kind of a given that this game would include all the characters from the previous game, but the old characters have been vastly improved with new moves and effects. When choosing your character, you somewhat take on the role of the character you're playing. After all those Mario games over the years, who wouldn't want to see Luigi do a flying headbutt? Or get the chance to play as the great Ganondorf or Mewtwo? Unlike some fighting ga

Fighting game that never gets old

Smash Brothers Melee is the best all around fighting game there is around. Even though there is no gore or blood the gameplay make up for that. Controls are so easy for this game. No difficult button combos to learn and anyone can lear in a matter of a couple of games. Great Multiplayer action good for hurs of entertainment for all ages. Great cast of characters sure for you to find the one that fits you style of play. I would recommend this game to any person looking for a fun solid fighter. Nintendo gave gamers what they wanted. How many gamers have wanted to see Princess kick the snot out of Mario or Luigi beat Mario down. There are many levels for you to fight in each with its own quirks. This game never got old to me and I still pick it up from time to time. When I need to vedge out for an hour. Single player mode will tesr your skills to the max with All-Star mode once you unlock it. It will drive you to the edge and back. This game is a sure win. Nintendo knows it it was one of the first games for the cube and the price is still $20 new.

When the original Smash came out on the N64, a silly idea of having Nintendo's biggest mascots beat the crap out of each other proved to be a massive success for pretty much everybody. I mean, seriosuly. If you were a Mario, Zelda, Pokemon or whatever fan, you had something there for you. If you were a Nintendo fan, you'd be all over it. And even if you weren't a fan, the simple yet challeging gameplay would hook you and then get you interested in all those Nintendo franchises.

So it was only natural to make a much bigger and fantastic sequel for the new and more powerful system, the Gamecube. Being one of the near launch titles of the system, it's still one of the best games on it. And it's the most popular and the biggest seller also.

This game has an amazing soundtrack, great graphics and a fabulous cast of Nintendo characters. It's a great choice for parties and gaming afternoons with your friends. You can play it alone too but this game is definitely more of a blast with 4 players.

THE BEST GAME EVER

Reviewed by darkdog234 on August 21, 2007  |  report this review

Or get the chance to play as the great Ganondorf or Mewtwo?

this is an awesome game, it'll give you more then 3 weeks of just getting to the end with every character, it has a huge replay value, and if you play multiplayer a lot you can unlock more things, take for example, the 4 stages you unlock one by one every 50 multiplayer matches up to 200, and if you try and collect every single trophy, thats atleast another 2 weeks of replay value, if you dont already have this game, you have to get it.

if you have a gamecube and dont have this game you need to buy it. this game will provide you entertainment for over 50 to 100 hours at least. this game has a variety of characters to master if you arent good with any particular one, and has many characters to unlock so dont be dissapointed at the number of starting characters. the story on this game is quite fun, and there is another mode to unlock, called all stars, which is a challenge, but fun at the same time. bbut probably the best part of this game is the vs mode. there are various modes of vs to play, like tournament mode which can be played with or without other people. there is also vs modes with special abilities like super speed or size, slow motion, and many more. to add to this games fun vs mode, there are a ton of levels to play on, so you never get tired of a certain level. over all this is one of the best cube games ever and a must have for gcn owners.

Lacks Potential

The game had semi-good graphics, which the awesome battle system made-up for. The limited character selection was made-up for by the many different battle settings. Whenever this game failed, another part of it helped lift the wrinkle. Regardless, Super Smash Brothers Brawl will make lots of people get rid of this as soon as February 2008 rolls around.

The N64's Best Is Back

Reviewed by Spray Guard on December 08, 2007  |  report this review

Easily one of the most popular games in the Nintendo GameCube library, Super Smash Bros. Melee really delivers.

The starting roster of characters is a healthy improvement over the N64 version's. And as before, a number of extra characters may also be unlocked. When the number of "VS." matches played or the cumulative time of "VS." matches played hits certain milestones, the winner of the match is challenged by the new (computer-controlled) character. Certain single-player accomplishments can also trigger the challenges.

New in this sequel is the ability to charge (hold) smash attacks. This not only makes the attack stronger, but it also gives you more control over the timing of the attack.

Another new maneuver is the forward+B special attack. In addition to the up+B and down+B attacks, the neutral+B and forward+B attacks have been disambiguated. For example, Ness' PK Fire has been reassigned to forward+B, and neutral+B is a different special attack. This can be difficult to adjust to for long-time N64 gamers, but with time old habits can be broken.

It is also possible to dodge in midair now. Something like a midair counterpart to rolling on the ground, this is a quick way to get out of danger.

The new "Event Mode" can be difficult at times. For example, in Event #36, you control Ness and must dispatch five foes in succession. Such tasks should provide a healthy challenge for all but the most skilled of gamers.

Some of the new levels don't seem very well-designed, but this is a minor criticism at worst because level selection is an option. Character balance seems mostly okay, though many complain that Roy and Marth of Fire Emblem fame are overpowered.

Pick Starfox or Falco during multiplayer mode and pick Corneria or Venom as the level you play on. Next, press left and right on the D pad repeatidly until Starfox or Falco, whoever your charactor is, starts to shake, then watch Falco, Starfox, Slippy or that rabbit dude have a very amusing conversation during the battle.

P.S.
If you press up on the D pad, you'll have to start over with pressing the D pad left and right.
If you let your charactor get hurt, the conversation will end.
You can only do this once per battle.

best gamecube game made

Reviewed by spydar05 on December 26, 2007  |  report this review

Easily when you talk about best gamecube game made you have to decide beetween super smash bros. melee, metroid prime 2, and mario kart double dash. since i own all three of these take my opinion, this is #1.

To start off it came up with the great idea of putting all these charecters in one game, which needed to be thought of.
it also is coming out with the new brawl, which if you check out the wii website under the smash bros. dojo you can see all that its coming to be.

With two player mode, link, pikachu, mario, kirby, many more charecters, one player adventure, target, home run hitter, and much more its a must have.

If your thinking about getting the game or have a question about it just post on my profile, i have every charecter unlocked, all but one stage unlocked, and all but 9 trophies unlocked.

There is a reason

Reviewed by sammyzee56 on February 04, 2008  |  report this review

There are many reasons why people say "this is the best gamecube game ever made" and the reasons are as follows:

1. Uniqueness - to the best of my knowledge, there has not been another game like this one or if it has, I had never heard of it (probably because one wasn't made or it wasn't nearly as good)
2. The Characters - The character selection is huge and I promise that if you get this game, you will find a character that matches your play style. You will find characters from games like Mario (Mario, Bowser, Luigi, Peach), Fire Emblem (Roy and Marth), Pokemon (Pichu, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo) and many more!
3. Vs. Mode - the ability to have almost a completely custom pvp match is great. Once you have unlocked all of the characters and all of the stages, the possibilities are endless.
4. Story/Adventure mode - This is the weakness of the game even though in my mind, it was designed to be a pvp games. "Classic mode" is fun but gets repetitive after a while, Adventure Mode is fun for the first couple of minutes and after that, it sucks.
5. Extras/Items - Even though the normal modes are pretty lame, there are many hours of fun unlocking all of the characters and stages and beating all 51 of the event modes. The items are really fun too. Along with the reputation of the game, the items are great fun. There are things like food to restore health to even a beam sword.
6. Replayability - no matter how much I play this game, I will never get bored of the Vs. mode and the fact that I probably never will get bored seems like a good enough argument.

So have fun and smash some super bros...

>That means finding the extremely rare discontinued "phantasy star online" cable to connect your gamecube to your computer, then using an obscure japanese program to emulate stuff....

Best Fighting Game Ever

Okay, the single player mode in this game isn't that great or in depth, but damn the fighting is! Who cares about single player when you can fight against your friends in probably the best multiplayer game ever. The fighting controls for this game are simple for the novice player and very technical for the expert player. Nintendo has managed to balance this out by offering a wide scale of different moves and letting the player choose how good we want to be at them. Theres plenty of characters and plenty of stages. This game has great replay vaule because you can never stop getting better at this game. All in all, this game is one of the best games ever made.

Best Gamecube Game On The Market!

SSBM has got to be one of the best games to date for the gamecube. How can I give it anything less than five stars.
If you have a gamecube and don't own this game, I suggest you buy it to tide you over for brawl. It would be some great training for ya. (That is, if you have a Wii. If not, buy it anyway!) This is by far the best, and most played, gamecube game I own!

A Super step up from N64!

Reviewed by AZabko on April 08, 2008  |  report this review

Now, don't get me wrong; Super Smash Bros. on N64 will always go down as one of the best games on that system, and one of the premier fighting games ever. But this updated version simply knocks it out of the park. The graphics are cleaner and sharper, there is a better(albeit still fairly limited) first-player mode, and, most importantly, there's a whole lot more stuff to play with. New stages, new items, and a bunch of new characters add so much more variety to the mix. I won't go into the details of the hidden things to unlock, but rest assured there is a good amount of stuff to find, and you'll spend hours upon hours getting it all. This is a highly recommended game for those who never played the original, and an automatic yes to anyone who played the first game and was hungry for more.
